Providing hope to families enduring the "curveballs" of life.

Our Story

In 1992, our two sons, “Little” John and Michael, were both diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). Only 11 months after the diagnosis, we lost “Little” John at the age of 8. Michael survived a bone marrow transplant that slowed the rapid progression of the disease, but still suffered debilitating seizures throughout the rest of his life.

Despite his setbacks, Michael had a lively spirit, and loved nothing more than to be out on the baseball field with his father John, who was a major league umpire for many years. He took every opportunity he could to join his dad at work.

Soon Michael began helping in the dugout, making friends with the players, and serving as bat boy. Baseball was his greatest passion in life. In April of 2014, we lost Michael after 27 beautiful years with him. In his loving memory, we created The Magic of Michael Foundation.

Our Mission

Through our many hardships, our community never failed to band together and help us in our time of need. We wanted to be able to give back to the community while creating something meaningful to keep Michael’s memory alive.

The Magic of Michael Foundation aims to help children and their families get any resources they may need, from accessibility ramps, to wheel chairs, to service animals. Our mission is to inspire, empower, and provide hope to families enduring the “curveballs” of life.

Events

Due to Covid, we have not hosted our annual fundraising event since 2019. However, we have continued to sponsor events for children in our community. Some of these include Go Baby Go at MCCTC, Akron Children’s Palliative Care Christmas party, and assistance with various special needs projects.

Our Friends

We have had the honor and pleasure of getting to know some extraordinary children and their families over the years. We hope to meet many more friends just like them and make many more wishes come true.
