Dear Friends,
My name is Erin Hirschbeck and I am writing to you on behalf of The Magic of Michael Foundation. My brother Michael passed away suddenly on April 8, 2014 at the age of twenty seven. He was preceded in death by my older brother John, who died at the age of eight in 1993. They both suffered from Adrenoleukodystrohpy (ALD), a rare genetic brain disease, for which there is no cure.
Michael lived and breathed baseball and was extremely proud to be the son of my dad John, a longtime Major League Baseball umpire. The league embraced Michael with open arms on and off the field and made him a member of the MLB family. No matter where he went, he always seemed to charm his way into the home or visiting team’s locker room with his great sense of humor and infectious smile. He would mingle with umpires, managers, players and many times would batboy for the home team.
The Magic of Michael Foundation was established by close friends and family. The mission of the foundation is to inspire, empower, and provide hope to families enduring the “curveballs” of life. The main purpose is to financially assist families from the community and surrounding areas in Northeastern Ohio and carry on Michael’s legacy. Through our Foundation we have been able to help countless children and have had the opportunity to work with wonderful local organizations such as Akron Children’s Hospital, United Way, Boys & Girls Club, Go Baby Go and many others.
This summer we will be hosting our fourth annual event to support this great cause. In celebration of Michael’s beloved Cleveland Indians, this year’s event will have an “All Star” theme. The golf outing and dinner are scheduled for Monday, July 8th and will be held at The Lake Club in Poland, Ohio. We truly appreciate your support in keeping the Magic of Michael alive.
